Nutrition/Exercise
I wasn't too sure where to put this question, as its to do with nutrition but also to do with Exercise.
I'm going to be doing a long cycle quiet soon, I was just wondering what would be best to bring to eat during the cycle.
Are the energy foods good? or is there any more healthy alternative?
Just any advise on what could be good would be helpful.
Thanks

Cycle ride
Hi Peternator,
Good things to eat before exercising are complex carbohydrates e.g. wholemeal pasta, brown rice, oat cakes as these will give you short term energy but eat them about an hour before, otherwise you could get indigestion! During the ride, make sure you keep your fluids up - water is OK if it is not longer than 45 minutes. If exercising for longer, sports drinks containing electrolytes (ie. sodium, potassium), and glucose are good to keep energy levels constant.
Afterwards, protein foods are good to help muscles recover such as cottage cheese, meat, chicken and bananas to replace potassium.
Hope this helps.
